The American Cemetery at Madingley, near Cambridge, contains the remains of 3,812 American war dead from World War II, marked by 3,732 Latin crosses and 80 Stars of David.
Alongside the burials, a further 5,127 names are inscribed on the Walls of the Missing — those whose remains were never recovered, mostly lost in the Battle of the Atlantic or the strategic air campaign over northwest Europe.
